This project has never been done before and I am really looking forward celebrating my 80th birthday tour with this unique concerts with my brothers Monty, Sly and Robbie and all of my fans in Japan. Its so great sharing this with my Japanese family!

I am pleased and excited to think that coming soon,
I will join 3 of my brethren, brothers of the music that comes from my country Jamaica.
Roots, Reggae, Dancehall.

I am coming with the great Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, the "Kings of Rhythm", Sly & Robbie!
Along with my long-time good friend, the master of the guitar, the man of all roots of Jamaican music, Mr. Ernest Ranglin.
When I was told about this invitation, I really got excited. Because it's the music, the vibe, the groove, and that the whole history of Jamaica is wrapped up in these 4 people, and I am one of them. This is, in a sense, an awesome coming-together, for me, and I think the other guys feel the same way, and the people who know about this kind of scene are going to be as greatly excited as we are. I am proud to be a part of this, and am deeply, sincerely looking forward to coming to Japan to perform this music.

raised up in an island, a beautiful place called Jamaica, where everything is beautiful.

ジャマイカから友人、兄弟、そしてジャマイカのルーツであるレゲエ、ダンスホールを代表するミュージシャンである3人と一緒に日本に行くことを、本当に楽しみにしています。

スライ・ダンバーとロビー・シェイクスピア、2人合わせて ”キングス・オブ・リディム”の スライ＆ロビー。そして長年に渡る友人、ギタ―の達人、歩く“ジャマイカ音楽のルーツ”と言っても過言ではない巨匠、アーネスト・ラングリン。ジャマイカならではのサウンドとグルーヴ。ジャマイカ音楽の歴史を生きて来た４人だから、このメンバーでの出演依頼が日本から来た時にはとても誇りに思い、胸騒ぎがするくらい興奮しました。プレイする我々だけでなくジャマイカ音楽を愛する人、良く知る人だったら私たち4人が一緒にライヴを行うと聞けば、本当にエキサイトするはず。日本でライヴをするのが、本当に待ち遠しいのです。

a few years ago, Monty, Robbie and myself went into the studio to record an album which we really enjoyed doing. It was fun, creative and relaxed. Since then, we've always wanted to perform together onstage and recreate this magic. So when Blue Note contacted us to realize this dream, we immediately said yes. Playing with Ernest Ranglin, a pioneer of Jamaican music, whom we've admired for so many years, is the icing on the cake. These concerts in Tokyo are going to be marvelous, I can't wait for November to come around.

何年か前にモンティ、ロビーと私はスタジオに入ってアルバムをレコーディングをしたのだけれど、それは本当に楽しかった。ワクワクして創造的で、かつリラックスしていてね。それからずっと私たちはステージで一緒に演奏をして、レコーディングでのマジックを改めてクリエイトできたら・・・と思っていたんだよ。だからブルーノート東京からこの夢が実現できるという連絡をもらった時、即座に”yes"と言ったのさ。しかもジャマイカン・ミュージックのパイオニアで、長年に渡って尊敬しているアーネスト・ラングリンと一緒に演奏をすることができるのだから。東京でのライヴは素晴らしいものになるよ、11月に日本を訪れるのが待ちきれないね。

Well, Sly said it all. All I can add is that we're so excited by this once in a lifetime experience that we've already started looking into the set list. Over the years, I've always been interested in combining Reggae rhythms with Jazz arrangements, bringing together two pulsing musics is always a challenge. But at the end of the day, it's music we're talking about and with Monty and Ernie on board, everything will be just fine.

ええと、スライが全部言っちゃったな。加えるとしたら、今度のライブはスライ＆ロビーにとって一生に一度の経験になるだろうから本当にエキサイトしているし、セットリストはどうしようかともう考え始めているんだよ。自分はずっと、レゲエのリズムとジャズのアレンジを組み合わせたらどうなるだろうと興味を持っていたんだ。異なるパルスをもつ2つの音楽を一緒にするのはいつでも、難しいけれどやりがいのあることだからね。でも最後には、音楽についてわれわれが話をして、モンティとアーニーと一緒に演奏をして、すべてが素晴らしい結果になると思うよ。
