Message from Lou Donaldson

My Very Dear Japanese Fans,

It is has always been very important and deeply moving to me that my music has been so passionately and knowledgeably appreciated and received for so many years in Japan, which has one of the greatest jazz audiences anywhere in the entire world.

As most of you surely know, I am now 88 years old, and am looking forward to celebrating my 89th Birthday on November 1st, and when a person of my age gets a sudden and serious infection and blockage of the ear canals (eustachian tubes), like I am currently going through, it can be a very frightening experience; it can make hearing and even your walking balance quite a bit more difficult. We have to make absolutely sure that this clogging and infection have been totally cleared up by both by antibiotics and very careful attention, so that I can definitely come back to Japan for this farewell tour later this summer in total safety and comfort for all concerned.

I deeply appreciate all the kindness and support that the Blue Note Tokyo, Cotton Club and all my great fans in Japan have shown me for so long, and I look forward with all my heart and soul to seeing you all for my Farewell Tour concerts in your beautiful country.

親愛なる日本のファンの皆さまへ

世界有数のジャズ愛好家がいる日本で、長年に渡って私の音楽が熱心に、そして深い理解をもって鑑賞されていることは私にとって常にとても重要であり、深く心を揺さぶられています。

それがゆえに、7月はじめにブルーノート東京とコットンクラブで行なう予定だった公演を、健康上大事をとるために延期することになったことを、とても悲しく、残念に思います。

ご存知と思いますが、私は今88歳で、11月1日に89歳の誕生日を祝うことを楽しみにしています。私のような年齢の者にとっては、突然感染症にかかり、外耳（耳管）が閉塞してしまうこと-今まさにその状態なのですが-は、とても恐ろしい経験になり得るのです。場合によっては聴力が落ちたり、歩行バランスを取りにくくなってしまう可能性もあります。今夏以降、あらゆる心配事を取り除いて、フェアウェルツアーのために日本へ確実に戻って来られるよう、今は、抗生物質での治療や細心の注意をもって、感染症と外耳の閉塞を完全に治すことが重要なのです。

日本の素晴らしいファンの皆さま、ブルーノート東京とコットンクラブの私に対する思いやりやサポートに、深く感謝しています。美しい日本でまた皆さんとお会いできることを心から楽しみにしています。
